MAG Property has completed the deal with Mountpark Logistics for the creation of a 268,000 sq ft unit at Airport City Manchester, the flagship Enterprise Zone development.
The joint venture between Mountpark and USAA Realco has completed the purchase of an 11-acre plot near Manchester Airport for the creation of a 268,000 sq ft unit at the Airport City Global Logistics site, adjacent to Manchester Airport’s existing cargo centre and Junction 6 of the M56 Motorway.
Lynda Shillaw, MAG’s Divisional Property CEO, said: “We are continuing to see healthy demand for logistics and industrial property at Airport City Manchester and in response to growing requirements we’re now pleased to complete this deal with Mountpark Logistics to create a 268,000 sq ft logistics unit.
“Global Logistics at Airport City Manchester has an unrivalled logistics location in the North West, with direct links to over 210 global destinations and with great access to the UK’s motorway network, providing access to the international market place, boosting export opportunities and opening up exciting new opportunities.”
Stoford, a leading logistics property specialist, has been appointed as the development manager to deliver the project. Construction is due to start straight away with completion expected in January 2016, expanding the new world-class logistics hub alongside DHL, who have been operational since October 2014.
Stoford joint managing director Dan Gallagher said: “The Airport City Manchester project is an excellent opportunity in a region that is crying out for development of high quality distribution warehouses. These are prime locations for sheds with good quality occupiers and the demand is there due to a severe lack of alternatives.”
At the end of 2014, international logistics company DHL took occupation of a brand new and bespoke facility totalling 37,308 sq ft. Constructed in less than nine months, the new DHL Service Point, was the first the first business to locate at the flagship Enterprise Zone development.
This announcement follows the planning permission for ALPHA, a new £15m, 130,000 sq ft logistics facility at Airport City Manchester. Once complete in early 2016, the new building will offer units from 17,500 to 35,000 sq ft arranged in a single terrace designed to meet growing demand for small to medium logistics units.
Airport City’s Global Logistics site provides a full range of air-to-road transfer, assembly and processing activities for freight and logistics businesses. Outline planning permission for the development of 1.4 million sq ft of logistics space and 36.6 acres of new landscaping, was granted by the local authority in November 2012.
Part of the UK Government-designated Enterprise Zone for Greater Manchester, the £100m logistics hub will create 1,800 jobs by expanding Manchester Airport’s successful freight terminal to improve international trade, cut transit times and drive more efficient, sustainable supply chains.
