East Midlands Airport 10k and 2k fun run sells out

A rare runway closure has created an opportunity for runners to take part in 10K or 2K Fun Run around East Midlands Airport.

East Midlands Airport will be holding a very unique family sports event this November – coinciding with the closure of the airport for a runway refurbishment programme. East Midlands Airport will be closed for seven consecutive weekends in November and December to enable the runway to be reresurfaced. These closures have paved the way for East Midlands Airport to team up with HUUB Events for a one off opportunity to take part in a 10k and 2k Family Run which will take place on Sunday 27th November around the airport site. The route will take place on tarmac and will feature a 6km and a 4km loop around airport roads, taking runners up to and around the fire station – areas only airport staff normally get to see!

The run has proven to be extremely popular and has already sold out.

The event’s official charity is CLIC Sargent –the UK’s leading charity for helping children and young people with cancer, which is East Midlands Airport’s corporate charity.

Andy Cliffe, Managing Director East Midlands Airport said

“The closure of the airport for the runway maintenance only happens every 15 to 20 years. It therefore gave us the opportunity to host a family running event which is ideal for people of all ages and abilities as part of our work to support our local communities and our corporate charity CLIC Sargent. The course for both the 10k and 2k races has been carefully planned to give runners a unique experience in areas that would not be accessible if we were fully operational. This is therefore a fantastic event and will be a great day of sport to raise money for a very worthy cause.”
